tony blairUgly Rumours was the name of a rock band founded in part by the current UK prime minister Tony Blair, while studying law at St John’s College, Oxford during the early 1970s; he sang and played guitar.
Other members of the band were Mark Ellen (BBC) and Adam Sharples, currently Director General, Work, Welfare and Equality Group at the Department for Work and Pensions (wiki).
The House of Lords is the upper house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is also commonly referred to as “the Lords”. The Sovereign, the House of Commons (which is the lower house of Parliament and referred to as “the Commons”), and the Lords together comprise the Parliament.
On March 7, 2007 the House of Commons, still leaded by Blair’s New Labour, voted in favour of replacing the Lords with an elected chamber (either 100% elected or 80% elected, 20% appointed) with the removal of the remaining hereditary peers. This has paved the way for legislation to that end.
